NCEA Reviews and Reconsiderations

PNBHS —

Review and Reconsideration Processes for NCEA and Scholarship examinations

Over the coming weeks, you will be receiving your NCEA and Scholarship examination papers in the post. After reviewing your papers, you may wish to apply to NZQA for a Review or a Reconsideration. These are explained briefly below.

Review
This can be applied for if the marking and the results have not been correctly transferred. No re-marking is done. This process is at no cost.
Reconsideration For a student to apply for a reconsideration, they must not have altered or added anything to their answer booklets. Answer booklets or portfolios that contain correcting fluid or pencil will not be eligible for review or reconsideration. If the assessment to be reconsidered was done digitally, a copy of the assessment does not need to be sent with the application.

NCEA reconsiderations cost $20.40 for each standard. If the reconsideration leads to a change of final grade the fee is refunded.
If you are considering applying for a reconsideration, work through the following:

  • read the letter sent with your papers which outlines these processes
  • read the 'Applying for a Review and Reconsideration' document
  • review the cut score for the levels of achievement for each paper (click HERE)
  • take your paper to your classroom teacher or the Head of Department. They will give you advice or whether it is worth you applying.
  • refer to the NZQA website link (HERE) for further information and step on how to complete the process.

For both processes (review or reconsideration) please ensure that you have completed the NZQA application through your learner's login before 26th February.

Further information from NZQA can be found in the two attached documents.
