Newsies – NZ Premiere season!! ️

With less than three weeks to go till Opening Night, the PNBHS/PNGHS Senior Production  Company is working up a real treat for Palmy audiences. For the first time in New Zealand, they will be able to enjoy this new, high-energy show. Newsies is based on the real event of 1899 in New York City, when the paper girls and boys went on strike to protest the price increase they faced from Joseph Pulitzer, Randolph Hearst and other newspaper magnates. With no television, telephones in their infancy and of course, no internet, newspapers were the major form of communication. The strike brought the City to its knees, the magnates were forced to negotiate and youth labour laws began to come under review.

Newsies combines an outstanding score with complex choreography, an engaging script and our challenging set design. The Cast of 39 features Ben Viljoen as Jack Kelly and Kaitlyn Crafts as Katherine Plumber. Our young Company looks forward to continuing our tradition of bringing you some of the very best musical theatre in the region.
