RIPORIPO MURAL PROJECT

At the end of 2023, an application was put forward to Creatives NZ for funding for a mural to be painted on the school grounds. Past and present akonga and their whanau, speak highly of the brotherhood that is associated with PNBHS.  However, there is no visual representation of this sense of unity and belonging. This application was successful, and the planning process is underway.

Our akonga will work with our creative, Heneriata Te Whata, to design and create a mural that is influenced by the values of the school and the principles of whakawhanaungatanga. The Riporipo (ripples) project aims to acknowledge diversity and strengthen connections between akonga, and for them to discover that our strength derives from the many. The project will nurture a sense of collective identity, unity and belonging.

On Friday, the concept of the mural was shared with the boys’ and notable people of the school community came and spoke with them about the school values, brotherhood, and their connection to the school. Thank you to Mr Bovey, Whaea Debbie, Matua Anthony, Arts Ambassador Shaun Kay, and artist Heneriata Te Whata for giving up your time to share your knowledge with the boys’.
