Golf Day in its
traditional spot of the second Sunday in April was our next major focus. We had
a record number of team entries, 26 teams, this on reflection was too many and
slowed down the field too much, next year a maximum of 24 teams will be
accepted. The support from sponsors was outstanding and contributed to the
overall success of the day. Support from Justin and Keli Leck (McDonalds),
Wayne Gerard (Mad Butcher), along with Bill Foster (Morgan Laurenson) must be
acknowledged for supplying the field with their lunch and BBQ. We ran a raffle
in the Clubhouse at the end of the day, contributions of awesome prizes from
Simon O’Connor (Hunting and Fishing), Sheridan Vining (Vining Group), Mark
Gleeson (Rangitikei Meats), Mike Borren (Altherm Window Systems) and John
O’Sullivan made the raffle a great success. We tried a new initiative this year
where we had a guest speaker in the Clubhouse, we were lucky enough to have
Luke Irving CEO and founder of Fingermark, an extremely successful and fast-growing
IT business based in Havelock North, speak to us about his success story. Luke
was well received by the full clubhouse which included people who had turned up
just to hear Luke speak. We have built further on this in 2022 where David
Bovey has asked Bart Campbell to be the guest speaker to which he has agreed at
this stage. Another new initiative to the day was our Bootleggers Gin Tent,
Doug Speedy, Old Boy and CEO at Parker Brothers played in the field on the day
but also organized sampling of his 1931 Deco gin along with a variety of his
Bootleggers tonic range.
This was a huge hit and a refreshing change for many to the traditional beer cart that does the rounds.
The Colts Rugby Team, boys and parents helped prepare the pre golf lunch and cook the mid-way Mad Butcher BBQ, $1950.00 was donated to their Christchurch Rugby Tournament Fund from golf day profits.
Many thanks also to Ian and Brigid Van der Veen who helped us out before and during the tournament.
The winning team for 2021 was Naylor Lawrence and Associates.
The course is again booked for our 2022 Golf Day on Sunday April 10th.
