Junior Form Classes Complete Team Building Activities

Recently our junior students completed a range of team challenge activities in their Form Classes. These activities provided an opportunity for young men to learn about functioning as a team – sometimes successfully and sometimes not – and the attributes that make for effective teamwork.

The activities included a general knowledge quiz completed in groups.  This meant that students had to consider others' ideas before deciding upon what they believed to be the correct answer.  There were two construction challenges - building the tallest tower from spaghetti and marshmallows and building the longest bridge from paper and string - as well as an exercise requiring students to work in groups to rank items they could use for their survival if they were lost on the moon.  There was also a Form Class Tug o' War competition, where a different team had to compete in each round so students had to work together to formulate a strategy and then select the teams from within their class to put that strategy into place.

Hopefully, the experiences throughout the day cemented an understanding that we are all different and consequently have different strengths and weaknesses. For a team to work effectively we need to consider how we can get everyone involved and utilise their strengths to the advantage of the whole team.
