Clash of the Colleges - New Zealand Rural Games

Ten teams of PNBHS students - five junior and five senior - competed in the Clash of the Colleges as part of the New Zealand Rural Games. The teams completed a series of modules that tested both their theory and practical knowledge of farming and agriculture as well as some fun activities. The Clash of the Colleges has grown in recent years and this year more than 60 teams from across the lower North Island were involved.

Biology Trip to Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre

In week 9, the four Year 12 and the Scholarship Biology class went to Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre at Mount Bruce. The trip was to explore concepts related to their upcoming internal assessment on animal adaptations. They were shown around the centre and given a background to its operations before embarking on more specific hands-on activities, involving soil and stream invertebrates and the adaptations of several natives including kiwi, tuatara, eels and geckos. The scholarship students were able to explore their own list of concepts including a fine example of allelopathy under the redwood trees.
