Gateway; Trades Academy; Employment Pathways Programme

Year 12 Trades Academy - 12TRD

Programmes are offered in conjunction with Trades Academy partners Ucol and the Primary Industries Training Organisation (PITO). Students will spend one day per week studying their chosen discipline at Ucol. Courses are usually trades-related but not exclusively so.

There is no cost to boys undertaking these options.
Boys who are interested in this option need to be exploring the possibilities with the Careers Adviser well before the end of the current school year. There is a formal application process

Employment Pathways Programme - 13EPP

This course is targeted at young men who are intending to move directly into employment at the conclusion of the school year. Students will be exposed to a range of employment areas linked to the Manawatu regional economic growth strategy.

Work experience will be a core component of the programme and unless boys are willing to undertake at least a week in the workplace they should not consider this option.

Prerequisites: Usually NCEA L2 or by negotiation with the Careers Adviser. Places are limited - selection is at the discretion of the Careers Adviser/Deans.
Assessment: Will comprise a selection of Level 3 Unit Standards, that contribute to NCEA Level 3
Subject Costs: $40 for classroom materials

Gateway Programme - 13GWY

For young men who know what they want to do when they leave school and want to start working towards that goal.

Usually trades-related but can involve career opportunities in other areas. An individual learning plan will be put in place for all Gateway students. The programme involves a work placement for the equivalent of one day per week. Interested students are urged to see Mr Johnson (Gateway Co-ordinator) for more details.

Prerequisites: Usually NCEA L2 or by negotiation with the Careers Adviser/Gateway Coordinator. Places are limited - selection is at the discretion of the Careers Adviser/Gateway Coordinator. To be considered for this programme a student must have B Average Attitude grades.

Gateway may be offered as an integral part of the Yr 13 Engineering and Construction programmes. Gateway placements in Agriculture, Construction Trades, Hospitality, Logistics and Transport, Engineering and Automotive are currently supported.

Other Pathways will be explored in conjunction with interested students.

Assessment: Unit Standards at the appropriate level
