DanceNZmade Interschool Competition

Jake Maskill has competed in this event for several years now, as either a soloist, in a group or both. This year was no exception. As a solo competitor at the Regional competition, Jake was awarded Solo year 12 Champion and Overall Solo Champion. He was also awarded a Golden Ticket due to the level of skill and energy he demonstrated in the workshops throughout the day.

This year also saw the formation of the PNBHS Crew; a group of 13 students spanning years 10 to 13 with dance experience ranging from Novice to World Representation level. Lead by Jonathon Hillas and Jake Maskill, who also choreographed the routine, these young performers demonstrated that a lot of perseverance, patience, problem-solving and positive encouragement is needed to execute an award-winning dance in a team with such varied skills. At the DanceNZmade Regional competition the PNBHS Crew were placed 2nd Runner Up in the Senior Teams Open category with a very crowd-pleasing playful routine. This choreography was highly regarded as Jake gained the Choreography Award for scoring 10/10.

The crew attended the Teams National competition on the 9th of September, where they were the only all-male team entered. Once again, the audience and other dancers from all over the country enjoyed their energetic and playful performance; the wings backstage were filled with dancers making sure they got to watch. Although they did not receive any awards here, they can rest assured that they left a positive impression on all who attended.  Well done boys.
