Monte Cassino
Former PNBHS Head of History and current school Archivist Mr. Dominic King is currently on holiday in Italy and recently visited the battlefield and Commonwealth Cemetery at Monte Cassino. During World War Two 343 New Zealanders were killed in the battle of Monte Cassino, including four Old Boys from PNBHS. Mr. King placed plaques on their graves - Norman Lovelock, Craig Andrew, J. Carter and K McCabe. There are nearly 4,000 Allied dead buried at Monte Cassino and he noted that it was a sobering experience. The names of all of our Old boys killed in war are recorded on the honours boards in the Memorial Gallery and are read annually at our school Anzac Service. Lest we forget.
In preparing for his visit Mr. King had been in contact with the Archivist at Nelson College and also placed plaques on the graves of their six Old Boys killed in the battle.
