PNBHS — September 21, 2020
Hopefully, your son is well-rested following the holiday break and ready for the busy conclusion to the school year.
Term four is an important one for all young men. NCEA exams and junior examinations are fast approaching and it is essential that academic studies take priority at this time.
We acknowledge that this has been a very challenging year and the obstacles that young men have faced in 2020 have been unique. However, it is also important that we are forward-looking in our perspective. We have no control over Alert Level changes and the impact this has on our daily lives. However, young men's preparations for their examinations are something that they have total control over. Choosing to begin their preparations now will enable them to do everything they can to achieve the best academic results that they can. A different choice, choosing to begin preparations at a later stage, makes adequate preparation difficult. Young men must be aiming to give themselves the best opportunity to achieve their potential.
Further on in this Weekly Update you will find a compilation of resources to assist young men with their revision. Young men often procrastinate and put off starting their revision. However, once they get started and achieve some progress, their motivation and willingness to work often increase. Parents can play an important role in supporting their sons to make a start with their revision. Explained in the resources is a tool - the Pomodoro technique - which young men can use to help overcome their procrastination.
The changes to NCEA examination dates have meant that a number of our scheduled end-of-year activities have been altered. Please find below a summary of key events coming up in term four. Further information will be provided as the term progresses.
