It was great to see a number of winners with PNBHS connections in the recent Central Energy Trust Manawatū Sports Awards.

Congratulations to Year 12 student Callum Kennett, who was named Junior Sportsman of the Year, following his selection in the New Zealand U17 Football team that competed in the under-17 world cup in Brazil last year.

PNBHS Physical Education teacher Mr. Dave Tomlinson was named Official of the Year.  Mr. Tomlinson umpired FIH Pro League games and an Olympic qualifying series, and was named Hockey New Zealand’s umpire of the year.

Old Boy Chris Arbuthnott won the award for disabled sportsman of the year – physical disability.  Chris won a gold medal in the 100m butterfly at the New Zealand open championships last year and beat the New Zealand record at the world para swimming championship in London last year.

Another Old Boy, Campbell Stewart, was named the supreme sportsperson of the year and the sportsman of the year at this year’s awards.  Campbell won the omnium at the UCI track world championships and his world cup series results included winning the omnium and madison events in Hong Kong and Cambridge, as well as gold at the team pursuit in Hong Kong, and silver at Brisbane and Cambridge.  He is also the New Zealand madison champion, won a silver medal at the national omnium championships and has been selected in the New Zealand Track Cycling team to compete in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
