Vex IQ World Championships

During the early hours of Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 May three students from PNBHS participated in the Vex Robotics IQ World Championships. They were Nakul Lakhani, Andrew Buchan and Peter Hughes – Year 10 students. While the in-person tournament was in Dallas, Texas, there was, due to travel restrictions, an option to compete through a Live Remote Tournament. This meant that while we competed in Palmerston North, our alliance partner for the match could be anywhere in the world. So, you had two teams on two fields in two countries competing in the same match. Weird but wonderful.

The whole tournament went well. The boys did well on the first day with some good results. However, day two saw them not achieve the scores that they had achieved on day one or in practice. This resulted in them ending 19th out of 23 in their division. Still, they did very well to qualify in the first instance. Well done. The boys learnt a lot from the experience and are keen to transfer this experience and knowledge to the senior version of Vex this year.
