2022 May Library News

As the days get colder (and wetter) our regulars are having to move over to accommodate the influx of students, who would normally be outside enjoying the sunshine. There are plenty of computers and board games to share, and very few boys misbehave, so it is a pleasure to have such a vibrant, warm library being enjoyed. Some of the noisiest students are the chess players!

Although we cannot buy all the books we would like, we try to offer the latest issues of popular titles – even buying multiple copies to prevent long waiting lists of Reserves. We welcome suggestions, because we want to cater for the students’ interests and strive to offer a balanced collection. The green “Request book” can be found on the Issue Desk.

The government pays for all schools in New Zealand to have access to the large international newspaper and journal article databases, collectively called EPIC databases. These are a fantastic resource for any topic in any subject and the library staff are happy to help anyone who is interested in using these, either in school or from home. The login and password are the students’ single sign-on ones.

We now have 18 Student Librarians volunteering and congratulate Reuben Houlahan on his appointment as Deputy Head Librarian on Locky Hooper’s departure. Go well, Locky and thank you for your years of service!

The Parent Teacher Association has generously supported us by purchasing another set of mobile bookshelves for the Fiction side, enabling us to promote more books face out – to attract readers.
