PNBHS/PNGHS Prefect's Leadership Day by PNBHS

Prefect's Leadership Seminar

Earlier in the term our Prefects came together with the PNGHS Prefects for the annual Leadership Seminar. After a mihi whakatau to welcome PNGHS the organisation of the day was turned over to the student leaders of the two schools who led the day's activities. A range of challenge activities provided opportunities to examine group dynamics, to understand that everyone has different strengths and the importance of allowing people to use their strengths in group situations. The challenge was laid to the Prefects to use their opportunity to lead as an opportunity to make a difference and ‘leave their mark’ on their respective schools as they develop their leadership ability through the year.

Harmful Digital Communications Act - Mr Grant Watts by PNBHS

Harmful Digital Communications Act

At a recent assembly Mr. Grant Watts, Palmerston North Police Youth Aid Officer, spoke to young men in Year 9 about the Harmful Digital Communications Act and their obligations and responsibilities with their online activities. Mr. Watts reinforced the key message that "What you post online you are responsible for."

Anything that becomes public, even if it was initially shared in a closed group or was meant as a joke, can be followed up under the Harmful Digital Communications Act if it is offensive. Mr. Watts' advice was "Don't put anything online you don't want your mum or dad to see" - some prescient words.

Anything posted online, or in a group chat, that is considered threatening is illegal. Any inappropriate images that are saved on a device or shared without consent are also illegal.
