Get2Go Challenge

Success in the Torpedo7 Get2Go Challenge

Recently Jonny Peel, Jakob Abernethy, Gibson Moores and Cooper Robinson completed in the Torpedo7 Get2Go Challenge in Wellington in a mixed team that also comprised four PNGHS students.

This challenge is for Year 9 and 10 students. They travel to four different locations during the day to compete in mountain biking, orienteering, rock climbing and stand-up paddle boarding with set time limits for each activity. The themes of the day are speed, problem-solving and teamwork.

First up was mountain biking where the team gained a third placing overall. A great result considering they had a broken chain during the race on one of the two bikes they were allowed to use for the team.

Next was the orienteering where there was fantastic teamwork shown earning the team 1st place by a large margin, finishing the rogaine course and coming in 13 minutes before their time was up!

After lunch, it was rock climbing which they found more challenging as they didn’t quite understand all the rules and how to earn the points. The team still managed to finish a very respectable 11th place.

Last was SUPing. The team again worked well together by getting maximum points on each loop by having three people on the board most of the time. The team came in 3rd place.

Overall, the team placed first in the Mixed Premier category which means they have been chosen to represent the Wellington/Manawatu/Wairarapa region in the 5-day National Final to be held at the Hillary Outdoors Centre.
