2023 August Library News

Our full and busy library welcomes all-comers, and we have noisy chess, board and card games being played in among the studious or reading patrons. The graphic novel collection is still immensely popular and we have some great new titles like Aldebaran, Fazbear Frights and Project Nought.

Remember our selection of study guides for NCEA subjects (as well as Year 9 and 10 Science and English courses), which can be issued out to help with this upcoming period of exams.

Boys read at school! They are encouraged to read during Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) but many of them read anyway. So far this year we have issued 7,480 books, a few to staff but most of them to boys. This is when books are competing for leisure time with sports, outdoor activities, role-playing gaming, computer gaming and streamed movies/series.

Unfortunately, some boys seem to think that once they have issued a library book, they don’t have to return it - totally ignoring the 3-week loan period. Thank you to the many great borrowers who are conscientious about sharing our great books!

If there are any parents/students who have bookshelves containing “outgrown” books, then we are happy to relieve you of the popular ones, as ours get worn out pretty quickly.

The photo at the top of the article shows Tyler Fleming (our longest-serving and Head Student Librarian) and Jared Innis (our newest recruit).
