Colts Hockey – 2023

18 May – Intercity Division 2 – vs Kuranui College 1st XI at Manawatu Hockey Turf

The opening quarter of our first game was dominated by Kuranui, last season’s beaten finalists, with the bigger and stronger boys dominating our young team. However, on only our second visit to the opposition circle, we managed to score against the run of play through George Crocker, to          lead 1 – 0.

The second quarter saw us play far better hockey with more structure and composure to our game. However, Kuranui scored twice, both through Penalty Corners, to lead 2 – 1 at half time.

The third and fourth quarters were evenly matched with neither team dominating. However, George Crocker managed to score a second goal to even matters up at 2 – 2, which was also the final result of the game.

We need to work on our positional play and distribution of the ball to utilise the open spaces better, but this is typical of early season play and will improve as we progress through the season.
