Manawatū Secondary Schools Softball Competition by PNBHS

Manawatū Secondary Schools Softball Competition

The Manawatū Secondary Schools Softball competition began last Thursday in appalling conditions - cold, wet and windy. The young team was missing a few players, including NZ Under 19 representative pitcher Jaden Hita (who is preparing to head to Mexico for the Under 19 World Cup), and was to play an older and experienced Tu Toa team. The pitchers found the wet ball difficult to control and a messy game ensued. Unfortunately, the team lost in this first hit out but it was good to get some game time together in the short period before Christmas, with the hope of building strongly towards the 2024 National tournament.

This week's conditions were the opposite, warm and dry - ideal for the boys to play well. Unfortunately, Freyberg was unable to field a team so PNBHS won by default. However, not wasting the opportunity the team loaned Freyberg some players and all the lads got valuable game time. With two games left against Hato Paora and a Tu Toa re-match, the team hopes for continued good weather to continue working on combinations.
