Clay Target Shooting

Read below

The clay target shooting season is well underway. Term 1 saw our competition shooters begin pre-season training while starting shooters were offered a number of introduction and ‘newbie’ coaching sessions.

Term 2 has seen our competition teams busy themselves in the opening rounds. Their first challenge was the Murray Luke Memorial shoot in Taupo. Of the 35 teams that attend we placed 5th and 6th respectively. While the A team were slightly off the standards they would like, this shoot saw our ‘team of ten’ philosophy bear fruit.

Recently these two teams attended the first round of the lower North Island circuit in Hastings. Light conditions meant the targets were not easy to see and totals were slightly down across the board. Pleasingly the A team placed first with the B team taking out third place – ahead of many of our rival schools’ A teams.

Highlights included both Lourie brothers who placed first Junior shooter ( Hayden ) and second equal overall ( Josh ). Palmy Boys’ also shut out the Single Barrel event with Sam Bayley 3rd, Quinn Steed 2nd and Josh Lourie 1st.

While May has been a busy month for the competition shooters, June will see 'newbie' beginner sessions resume.
