3rd XI Hockey

The 3rd XI has made a fantastic start to the season with two wins and a loss to start the season. In what appears to be a very closely matched Boys' Division One, these are very good results.

In the first game against Feilding 2nd XI, we came back from 1 – 0 down to equalise in the 2nd quarter. In the 3rd quarter we scored two goals in quick succession to lead 3-1, but Feilding managed to score again with eight minutes to go. This made for a tense last period to the game and we did well to hold on to win 3-2. (Goals scored by: Ben Shirley, Salman Tariq and Lachie Nevill)

In the second game against Freyberg 1st XI, we found ourselves a goal behind at half time. We were playing good hockey which resulted in us keeping possession for long periods. In the 3rd quarter, we again managed to score two goals in two minutes to give us a slender 2-1 lead with a quarter to play. To their credit the boys continued to play attacking hockey and managed to maintain the score and a good win. (Goals scored by: Jack Bassett, Jack Allomes)

Rangitikei College were our third opponents. They played an attacking game and kept us under pressure for long periods. We battled to get ourselves out of our own half and eventually conceded a goal in the 2nd quarter and 3rd quarter to trail 0-2, after a period of sustained pressure. As is becoming typical of this team, we scored with three minutes left on the clock and very nearly scored again to equalise in the last minute. However, Rangitikei College ran out deserved winners 2 – 1. (Goal scored by: Jack Allomes)
