Who Do I Admire and Why?

Young men in Year 9 who are currently studying the Character Education core module were asked to reflect on the qualities they admire in others and to explain who they admire and why.  He is some of what they told us.

"I admire my dad. He always helps me through things and he has always inspired me to do new stuff. He always pushes me to be the best person I can be."

"The person I admire is Dr. Alfredo Quiñones-Hinojosa. He is a Neurosurgeon specializing in Tumor Resection and is the chair of Neurosurgery at Mayo Clinic. I admire him because one day I want to be like him. Plus, he went from harvesting cotton to Harvard Medical School as an immigrant from Mexico. He is a living example of never giving up!"

"The person I admire the most in my life is my brother. The reason is that he is always pushing me to get better at everything I do no matter what it is. He has always been the one that is telling me how I can improve and I really respect him for that."

"I admire my mum because she is in a wheelchair and she always tries her best to do all the normal things a mum would do and more."

"The person I admire is my older brother, he has a tremendous amount of talent, skill, and work ethic . The reason I admire him is because he has always put in the hard work to get where he wants to in life, not only in his co-curricular activities like sports, but also in his academic areas. It has been a pleasure to be by his side and
see him grow as a person, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for my bright brother."

"I admire my Dad, because he is very fair and responsible and funny. He helps others when they need help and respects my friends a lot. He also jokes around with them and when it's my birthday and after Christmas he took them on a camp with me. He also helps around the house a lot and cooks us dinner. And he has all the qualities to make him a real good bloke."

"My dad because he is a chill guy who is very helpful and teach me a lot over the years. Also a very kind, hard-working and encouraging dad to me and probably other people he is also someone that inspires me to be hardworking and to look for new opportunities around school."

"I chose my dad because we have somewhat the same passion."

"My mum and dad because they do everything for me."

"I admire Aaron Smith. I admire Aaron smith because of his work effort and the way he shows how hard he can work on and off the sports field. I admire him because he's an incredible half-back and that's the position I want to become in rugby. I admire Aaron Smith because of the places he's been in his rugby career and the teams he has made like the All Blacks, I think it's amazing to be a part of some of the teams he has made."

:I admire my mum because she is always the first to pick me up and tell me that I can do things when I’m in doubt and when things get hard she keeps on going and looks out for everyone."

:I admire my Dad because he inspires me and always pushes me to do my best. He is a kind loving person. My Dad is a dedicated person, he always wakes me up to go mountain biking even at 5am in the morning!"

"I admire my mum because she is so kind and is always willing to help me."

"I admire my Mum because she is respectful and organised. Whenever my Mum is asked to do something she is straight on to it without any questions, she is also always honest. She always strives for excellence when doing any task."

"I admire Kobe Bryant because he had was a very good person and basketball player. He would use failure to propel him to greatness."

"I admire my Dad because he comes up with creative solutions to fix things himself. He has always set a good example by being disciplined in his training to also strive to be better with sport and life."

"Albert Einstein, this man dropped out of high school because he didn't like it. Yet today Albert is famous. Albert had dyslexia and yet here he was. He is a theoretical physicist and survived and persisted all the way."

"I admire Cristiano Ronaldo because of his work ethic and ability to believe that he can improve in anything he does. I also admire his confidence and pride in himself."

"I admire my brother because he went to PNBHS for 5 years and was a Prefect. Also, he is a good role model who I look up to because he is not too much older than me. I hope to spend my high school years at PNBHS and hope to be a Prefect."

"I admire my mum. The reason I admire my mum is because she has so much to organise, like my basketball, her work, my school stuff I want to sign up to, and more. She gets stressed a lot but always manages to get around whatever her problem is. That is my reason for admiring my mum."
