Volleyball News

This year started with notification that Jassharr Lackey, a Year 11 student had then been selected for the New Zealand Youth Volleyball team. New Zealand Youth Volleyball team have a two year programme in which they will train students for the Asian Games in 2024. Well done Jassharr on your achievements thus far.

Jassharr also competed with Year 13 student, Ben Tinsley, at the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Beach Volleyball Championships. This was the first time Palmerston North Boys’ High School entered a team into the Beach Volleyball competition, which was held at Main Beach, Mt Maunganui, on 4-5 February 2023. The pair came 23rd equal in their division. We are looking forward to more of our teams competing next year in this competition.

At the end of 2022 our Senior A Volleyball team won the local Division One Adult League. A feat not achieved in previous years so this was certainly something to be proud of. This team is still together and is currently competing in the local Adult League and Premier School Volleyball League.

The Senior A Volleyball team have a busy schedule ahead with the Regional Volleyball competition to be held 10th-11 March, at Arena Manawatu. The team will then travel to Tauranga to compete in the Super Eight competition from 12-15 March, to be held at Tauranga Boys’ High School. This is then closely followed by the National Volleyball competition being held here in Palmerston North,  on 27-31 March.

We are also looking to take two junior teams to Auckland in November for the North Island Junior Secondary Schools competition. Trials for this competition will be at the end of this term.

We look forward to watching the PNBHS Volleyball team continue to achieve great results and to see the sport of Volleyball continue to grow at PNBHS.
