Student Leaders

Introducing our student leaders for 2023: Head Prefect - Connor Giltrap, Deputy Head Prefect - Jonathon Jamieson, Deputy Head Prefect - Connor Puanaki.

Head Prefect - Connor Giltrap

It gives me great pleasure to be able to welcome you all back for a new year. For those of you that don’t know me, here's a little introduction, I am in Murray Club the reigning Shand Shield champions and the club that will win again this year. I love my sports and play many, but mainly rugby, I was also lucky enough to be selected into the accelerate programme at the end of year 9. I love getting outside and going running, cycling and I get out hunting a lot.

Congratulations to the Prefects and the Mentors who have been named as these are very important jobs and I look forward to working alongside you boys this year.

To you new Year 9s: I’d like to welcome you into the Palmy Boys' brotherhood. You might think it’s all a bit overwhelming, but in a few short days, you’ll come to know this school like the back of your hand. A big thing that success at a new school comes down to is adaptability. Like it or not this isn’t your old school, so you have to be able to adapt to a new system and routine.

Something we want to encourage as a Prefect group is for you guys to come and talk to us. Especially you year 9s and 10s, as we feel like there’s quite a disconnect between the older boys and the younger boys. So, feel free to come and talk to us about anything, whether that's simple questions, or concerns, or ideas, we don’t bite and we want to help you boys out.

I look forward to what should be a very exciting year full of activities and events. I’ll leave you with the same message you get often and that is to get stuck in to everything you possibly can.  There are so many opportunities on offer here, so make the most of them. Even if it’s something you aren’t sure about just go talk to the teacher in charge about it and see if it’s for you. So get stuck in and ask plenty of questions.

I also really enjoy running and I have recently started competing in trail running races. For the last five years I have also competed nationally with my Mountain Biking.
