Nic Verry and Jack Aitken-Cade to Compete in the Junior Young Farmer of the Year National Finals
As the Junior Young Farmer of the Year national finals approach, Nic Verry and Jack Aitken-Cade have been immersing themselves in extensive preparation to ensure they're ready to represent the Manawatū-Taranaki region with pride. Their journey has involved a combination of rigorous study and hands-on farm work, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to compete at the highest level. They've been delving into agricultural theory, brushing up on best practices, and engaging in discussions to deepen their understanding of the various challenges they might face.
On the practical side, their experience has been comprehensive. They've tackled essential farming tasks such as fencing, dagging, and drenching, gaining invaluable insights and honing our abilities. Additionally, their involvement in the Feilding High School Agri Sports competition, where they emerged victorious, was a testament to their developing teamwork and dedication. They also had the privilege of assisting at a stud bull sale, further broadening their exposure to the agricultural industry.
Last week they met up with the Manawatū students from Feilding High School, Halcombe School and Waituna West School who will be competing alongside them at the Junior Young Farmer of the Year competition. Zayn Jones, the Manawatū-Taranaki finalist for the Young Farmers competition, also attended and shared some of his knowledge and experience with them.
Nic and Jack are immensely grateful for the support of Farmlands Palmerston North who have generously provided clothing for them to compete in at the Junior Young Farmer of the Year national finals, which take place from the 11-13th of July at Claudelands Event Centre, Hamilton.
