Year 10 Camp - Kapiti Coastal Adventures Camp

By Hamish Lunn

School camp is often a student’s favourite time of the year. The Kapiti Coastal Adventures confirmed this for me. We loaded our bikes in the truck and set off for an adrenaline-fueled week with Mr Finch, Mr van Stipriaan and Mr Shepard.

Once settled in our accommodation we headed off to walk the Escarpment Track from Paekākāriki to Pukerua Bay. The incredible weather allowed us to take in the views from Mt Taranaki to Nelson.

Tuesday certainly got the adrenaline pumping as we focused on mountain biking around the local tracks and on Whareroa Farm where grades one, two, and three tracks were available. Rain over the previous night made biking more difficult for us. However slippery tracks do make for more fun!

Wednesday consisted of playing in the surf with kneeboards and kayaks. Later in the afternoon, we played cricket and spike ball at the Paekākāriki Holiday Park, where we were staying. These games were quite popular during our downtime in between scheduled activities.

Thursday led us to the Adrenaline Forest in Porirua which was a new experience for all of us. This multi-level high ropes course was a great confidence builder. The afternoon was spent swimming at Paekākāriki Beach.

On the final day of the Kapiti Coast Camp, we were treated to a scoop of hot chips at Raumati on the way home as a reward for a challenging yet rewarding week for everyone.
