University 'A Grade' Presentation by PNBHS

Palmerston North Boys’ High Students Harvest Scholarships

Through hard work, determination and a dedicated teaching staff, Palmerston North Boys’ High Accelerate students have had their most successful year to date earning over $250,000.00 in university scholarships.

The Accelerate programme enables well rounded students showing academic talent to commence work on the senior curriculum at the start of year 10. This enables them to complete University entrance examinations (NCEA Level3) at the end of year 12 and progress to studying university papers during their last year of school. Many of these students out-perform the on-campus fulltime enrolled students at the respective universities. This year’s cohort enrolled for 95 university papers of which 65% were awarded an A grade.

This outstanding achievement has not gone unnoticed by the universities of New Zealand and abroad. John Hopcroft, an Accelerate student of 2021, was awarded a full scholarship to study business at the University of Pennsylvania while Lucas Richardson, of the 2022 cohort, was admitted to Georgetown University. The New Zealand Universities have awarded in excess of $250 K to 13 of our top performers, and there are still further interviews to be conducted for awards yet to be made. Auckland University has been particularly generous, awarding $25 000 to six of our students. In addition, our Head Boy, Telson Liuvaie, was awarded the Fonterra Massey Scholarship amounting to $56 000.

We would like to thank all the Universities of New Zealand for their recognition and support of our Accelerate students. Their generosity is a huge motivation for upcoming students to build on the success of those who have gone before.
