Junior Prizegiving 2022 by PNBHS

Jimmy Crosswell Memorial Trophy

Mr Jimmy Crosswell was a member of the PNBHS teaching staff from January 2014 - April 2017, and a College House Master from January 2015 - April 2017.  He passed away in April 2017 after a short illness.  Mr. Crosswell made a significant impact during his time at Palmerston North Boys' High School and College House.

As well as teaching English and Social Studies he was involved in establishing a mentoring programme for young men facing academic challenges, and had real empathy for those students who were struggling in some aspect of school life. Mr Crosswell was heavily involved in school co-curricular activities, especially as a cricket, rugby and rugby sevens coach, and through involvement in the outdoor education programme. As a College House Master he was significantly involved with the young men who lived there.

This year a memorial trophy was presented at the Junior Prizegiving in his memory.  The trophy was made by Mr. Crosswell's brother-in-law Mr. Squire, a woodwork and joinery teacher at PNBHS.  The criteria for the award is:

"The recipient will be loyal and hardworking in their team environment. They will be respectful to others, however, expect others to play hard, but without arrogance. They will be passionate about rugby and be a humble leader through their actions. Ultimately, the recipient will be a young man who has displayed the values of the school within the context of their rugby team.

This student should be playing at a junior level as Mr. Crosswell predominately coached junior rugby."

Congratulations to the inaugural recipient of the Jimmy Crosswell Memorial Trophy, Boston Gribbon from the Junior 7 Rugby team.
