Clay Target Shooting

Young clay target shooting teams make a strong start to the season.

Following the interruption of lockdown, our competitive clay target shooters have made a very promising start to the season. PNBHS have won two of the three central region shoots to have taken place so far, with a creditable second to a very strong Lindisfarne in the other. We have a very young group this season with captain Greg Wood and Riley Hudson being the only seniors ( both in Year 12 ) while the remainder are in Year 11 or below. We do, however, have a true ‘team of 10’ with very little between our ‘A’ and ‘B’ Teams. This group is showing what can be achieved with a lot of hard work, ambition and a willingness to listen. Credit must be given to master coach Mr Gordon MacPhee who is spending a lot of time with our young men. There have been several individual highlights so far, but by far and away the biggest was Greg Wood achieving the perfect 100 points at the second shoot in Patangata – he shot all 60 targets with his first shot. On the same day Josh Bergerson narrowly missed out on the same achievement, dropping his second to last Single Barrel target to finish on 99. There is a growing sense of confidence and self-belief as we look forward to both the North Island championships and Nationals in the coming September school holidays.
