Camden Woodroofe Qualifies for National Young Performer Competition

During the July school holidays, Year 11 student Camden Woodroofe competed in the Whanganui Performing Arts Tap Competition, placing highly in all of the categories in which he was entered. He gained a second place in both the fast tap dance and slow tap dance and third place in the solo tap dance. Competing in the Senior Tap Championship he placed fourth and was awarded the Senior Tap Scholarship in recognition of his achievements throughout the competition.

At this competition, Camden was also competing for a nomination for the National Young Performer (NYPA) competition through PACANZ. The Performing Arts Competition Association of New Zealand (PACANZ) is a nationwide competition held here in Palmerston North in October, where nominees compete to become National Champions. He was successful in gaining a nomination in tap dancing and we wish Camden all the best as he prepares for this competition.

Camden also competed in the Tap-a-Holic competition in Lower Hutt, where he placed first in the duo category and was awarded 'most memorable dance'.  In the solo competition, Camden was highly commended in both fast tap and slow tap and placed second for his solo tap and also second in the senior championship.  These results have qualified him to compete at Champ-a-Holic, the Lower Hutt Dance Champions competition for all dance genres later this year.  Camden was awarded the Most Promising Boy Tap Dancer at Tap-a-Holic, which qualifies him to compete in the New Zealand Boy's Dance Convention in Christchurch in February 2023.

Earlier in the year Camden successfully completed the Advanced Two Tap examination, which is the highest and final grade examination of the Asia Pacific Dance Association tap syllabus. Camden gained Honours with Distinction, achieving an outstanding mark of 96 out of 100.
