North Island Secondary Schools' Athletics Championships

Porritt Park, Hamilton 10-11 April 2021

In conditions that were wet, windy and unpleasant on the Saturday, to fine perfect conditions on the Sunday, the school's athletes adapted well and recorded the following outstanding results.

Braxton Kauri - in the intermediate 300m Hurdles he broke the meeting record of 41.31secs with an outstanding run of 38.83 secs, which is also a new PNBHS record and a personal best. Braxton was 3rd in the Senior 110 Hurdles - 15.86secs (P.B.)

Forbes Kennedy won the Intermediate Long Jump - 6m 74cms which equals the school record. Forbes gave an excellent display of power and pace to win the 200m in 22.30secs - a P.B. and an outstanding performance.

Angus Lyver continued his top form with another classy set of results - 1st in the Senior Long Jump at 6m 74cms and was placed 2nd in the 200m in a close finish in 22.22secs. He also won his heat in 21.98secs - a P.B. In the Javelin he was 3rd, 49m 72cms.

Aden Porritt - 3rd in the 300m Open Hurdles - a classy effort.

Dirki Botha - 4th equal with Aden Porritt in the 400m at 52secs, 9th in 800m at 1min 59.91secs (P.B.)

Ryder Crosswell - 3rd in the Junior Triple Jump in 11m 38cms (P.B.); 5th in the 80m Hurdles in 12.89secs (P.B.)

Other placegetters were:

Junior: Nehemiah Su'a 5th 100m in 12.28secs; 4th in Long Jump 5m 39cms - a top effort

Intermediate: Dylan Calder 17th 100m in 11.89secs

Fraser Babb 15th 400m in 54.8secs

Senior: Caleb Evans 7th 200m in 23.21secs (22.88secs in his heat - P.B.), 7th in Triple Jump 12m 11cms

Sam Lohrey 5th Triple Jump 12m 39cms

Nelson Doolan 4th 2,000m Steeplechase in 6mins 26secs

Thomas Harding 5th 2,000m Steeplechase in 6mins 38secs

The Relays were against provincial teams not schools. Boys run for Manawatu. The school teams gave a top display of baton changes and team work.

The Intermediate 4x100m was 3rd in 44.51secs, which is the same time as the Seniors winning time at nationals last year. A top class team effort. Team members were: Nehemiah Su'a, Braxton Kauri, Forbes Kennedy and Dylan Calder.

The Seniors were in top form finishing 2nd in 43.46secs - a top performance. Team members were: Caleb Evans, Dirki Botha and Angus Lyver. Another close tight contest with Wellington.

In the 4x400m, in another close encounter, a gutsy effort to finish 2nd in 3mins 29.6secs. Team members were: Aden Porritt, a sub 50secs from Dirki Botha, Fraser Babb. A top effort to end the season and experience gained for nationals at the end of the year will be invaluable.
