Exciting News - Membership Subscription 2025 Update (Reminder)
Finally - a formalised membership process with Edpay
Kia ora PPCB e te Whānau,
Since its formation in 2022, the PPCB Union has gone from strength to strength and we now have over 347 members. We made big steps in the negotiation of the inaugural PPCB Collective Agreement in 2022 and we are now preparing for bargaining when the current Collective Agreement expires on 1 May 1st 2025.
By becoming a member of PPCB Union, together, we can negotiate better pay and conditions for ourselves and our colleagues around the motu: Mā te Tumuaki, Mō te Tumuaki - By Principals, For Principals.
2025
In 2025 our annual subscription effective 1 January 2025 will be $300. We don't expect it to be paid in a lump sum - our preferred method for payment is by salary deduction at the low rate rate of $11.53 per fortnight. We have now formalised a process with Edpay for all existing memberships to roll over with the first fortnightly payment to be deducted from existing members' salaries in PP21 on 7 January 2025. As new members join PPCB, their details will be passed on to Edpay to commence fortnightly payments in the next payroll cycle after joining.
Members do not need to do anything - we are anticipating a smooth transition to the new payment regime. However, if you have changed schools, please let us know so we can update our records.
See below for FAQs:
Q. How are my subscription rates calculated and what is my subscription used for?
A. Each year the PPCB Board reviews membership subscription rates to ensure that these are reasonable and affordable and that operating costs can be met. These costs include legal advice, IT subscriptions, admin/financial management costs, Board and negotiating team costs etc. We are a not-for-profit organisation and in order to provide the best industrial representation we need to ensure that we have the necessary resources to do so. We review subscription rates annually and any increases will communicated to members before being applied to first-cycle deductions at the start of each year.
Q. I am a 2024 paid-up member - do I need to re-apply for membership?
A. No, you don't need to do anything. Your membership will be rolled over and fortnightly payroll deductions will commence in the first payday in January for 2025 subscriptions.
Q. When will my first fortnightly deductions be taken from my pay?
A. 2025 subscriptions will be paid by fortnightly payments commencing on 7 January 2025.
Q. What if I join PPCB Union part-way through 2025?
A. You will commence fortnightly deductions from your pay in the next pay cycle after the membership application is submitted.
Q. What if I change role or retire from Education i.e. am no longer a Principal?
A. Please let us know if you change roles as you will no longer be covered by the PPCB CA. Please email office@ppcb.nz so we can cease union membership deductions.
Q. What if I take up a position as Principal at another school?
A. Please let us know if you change schools so we can update our records and notify Edpay. Please email office@ppcb.nz
If you have any other questions please contact office membership@PPCB.nz.
