Communication to PPCB Whānau

Denise Torrey —

Thank you for your continued support. We have been working on the claims readying them for when we initiate bargaining. Click below for more information.

Kia ora PPCB e te Whānau,

Thank you for your continued support. We have been working on the claims readying them for when we initiate bargaining.

We have some changes in our personnel at PPCB. I remain Head of Union and Hayley Read and I remain a member of the original Project team. We are also your negotiating team and we are joined by Patrick Walsh. Patrick has experience in negotiating for the NZSPANZ team. We’d like to thank Tom Paekau who was unable to continue his work with PPCB due to family reasons.

Currently, our board consists of three NZPF executive members Jason Miles (board chair), Cherie Taylor- Patel and Julie Hepburn. There will be an election for the other board members later in the year.

Recent work has seen us rework the remuneration claim to ensure it did as you asked by simplifying the scale, giving parity with secondary principals and ensuring there was a differential between U1 and 2 school principals and DP’s in large schools.

We wanted to design a pay scale that acknowledges that a principal is a principal whatever the size of the school and recognises that the job of a principal is complex in all schools. Our reworking still acknowledges the size of the school and the decile rating but in addition a greater weighting on the experience of the principal.

It now includes some of the previous claims in particular CPI and the retention payment for small schools.

Check out the updated claims in a separate article and help our negotiating team by prioritising the claims by filling in the survey. Only do this if you have nominated us as your bargaining agent.

As we head towards initiating bargaining we need you to make a decision on who you want to bargain for you. Some of you are NZEI members and wish to remain NZEI members. PPCB wants one collective agreement and believes NZEI and PPCB can achieve much by working together. But only one union can negotiate for you. We are aiming to work with NZEI to have one collective agreement. If this is not possible you will be party to the Collective agreement between the Ministry of Education and PPCB. This agreement will have the current Collective agreement as its basis and whatever claims we have been able to negotiate on your behalf. There is a link below for you to fill out a form to nominate PPCB as that agent.

The PPCB Board needs to hold a Special General meeting to amend three PPCB constitution clauses. This Special General Meeting will be held via Zoom - 6pm Wednesday 15th June. The link to this meeting is here. The information about the constitutional amendments that have been received by our Board secretary is here. We require a quorum for a General Meeting of at least 10% of eligible financial members to be present.
