Principal's Update - 6 June 2019

Kim Alexander —

Naku te rourou nau te rourou ka ora ai te iwi. With your basket and my basket the people will live.

Kia ora e te whanau

It has been a short school fortnight this time, with a strike day, a public holiday and a teacher only day.  Hopefully it has been a welcome mid-term rest for some of our students.

Thank you so much for your support of our teaching staff during last week's strike - it is not a form of industrial action that sits well with many of us, however we remain united and steadfast in our NZEI union and claim. The backing of our parents makes a big difference.

Many thanks to Carly and other PTA members for organising the wonderful Subway lunches last Friday - a very popular event!

On Tuesday our teachers joined with the teachers from the 8 schools in our Community of Learning, for a day of professional learning held at Lincoln High School.  A range of workshops were provided on topics including digital technologies, well-being, play-based learning, student mental health, and science teaching.

You may be starting to notice that we are undertaking a few changes in our communication and information platforms this year.  Please do keep an eye out for notifications regarding these - the pain of signing up will be worth the gain! The aim is to make our communication more accessible and efficient.  Throughout 2019 the improvements will (or have already) include: Facebook Group; LINC-ED, School Apps and Hail. Plenty of notice and instructions will be provided for each change, but don't hesitate to ask us if you need help.

Completed Board of Trustee voting papers must be in the mail or dropped into the school office by tomorrow!

"Happiness is only real when shared."
