Walmsley House Ticking all the Boxes

PSS —

Walmsley House’s re-certification audit has not only proven the rest home is continuing to achieve at above standard levels, but has also been a positive development opportunity for a staff member.

Two years ago Walmsley House received four year certification at its audit; the maximum length of time audit certification can be given. The Mary Street rest home is one of just three facilities in Invercargill, including Vickery Court, to receive the full four years.

The surveillance audit was part of regular audit procedure, and with manager Hayley Gould away, Registered Nurse Tracey Petterson managed the process.

From care plans to the kitchen, activities for residents aged 65 and over, and processes, procedures and record keeping, the surveillance audit process was thorough.

But, said Tracey, a team of dedicated and capable staff helped make it run smoothly.

“It’s a complete team effort, from the manager through to nurses, carers, kitchen staff, cleaners … everyone is involved,” she said.
“I knew we were doing everything more than up to standard, but the process was still quite nerve wracking. It was just about giving the auditor everything she needed, so I had to be very prepared to be able to give her files and information then and there.”

Hayley said it was not only great to have the assurance they were doing things well, but that Tracey could step up and oversee the audit process.
