Long Service Celebrated

Close to 70 staff from Enliven, Family Works and Central Office have been recognised through PSS’s Long Service Awards.

Every year the organisation celebrates those who have hit milestone years with the organisation.

Annette Allen, who started with PSS in 1987 as a laundry assistant before becoming a care worker, brought up 30 years with PSS this year.

“When I walk through the door at Peacehaven it just feels like home… it’s just part of my life,” she says.
“The staff here are amazing. I’ve made friends. I stay fit. I do a job I Iove in a place I feel safe and happy.”

Resthaven Village Care Worker Leslie Speden officially started with PSS at the Gore children’s home Inglenook in 1973, then transferred to Resthaven three years later when Inglenook temporarily closed for renovations. In 1983 she left to have her baby. She re-joined the team at Resthaven in 1987, and has been there ever since.

“A lot has changed but I’ve had a good job, I’ve enjoyed it and I’ve stayed through thick and thin… “I just love the residents and their families,” she said.

Janice Hodson and Rodney Macpherson both work in the kitchen at Peacehaven and both brought up 20 years of service this year. Thirteen staff were recognised for 15 years service, 13 for 10 years service and 20 staff were acknowledged for five years of service to the organisation.

PSS Chief Executive Peter Wards said it was pleasing to see the high number of staff who had been with PSS over such a long time.

“It’s not just about the amount of time, it’s about the quality of the people – and our staff are truly exceptional,” he said.
“They make the organisation what it is and they go the extra mile day after day for residents, clients and families.”
