A New App, Condolences and Awards for Volunteers

There is always plenty going on within Presbyterian Support Southland...

Baby&You App Launched

The Baby&You app has officially been launched, at a Family Works function in October.

The launch was well supported, with Mayor Tim Shadbolt in attendance, and signalled the culmination of more than a year’s worth of extensive work and development by a number of people.

The free app, developed by Family Works staff alongside young parents and professionals in the community, offers information and links to a huge range of topics relevant to new and young parents. The idea for the app stemmed from Social Worker Lorna Allott who identified a need for young parents to be able to access information easily, after many clients she worked with raised this issue.

It can be downloaded free on any Android or iOS device, including cell phones, tablets and iPads.

Condolences

It is with sadness that PSS acknowledges the passing of Lindsay McIntyre. Lindsay was a Trustee from 1999-2009, Deputy Chairman from 2000 to 2003 and Chairman from 2003 to 2007. He was also Chairman of Presbyterian Support New Zealand for two years. His input into our organisation was longstanding and invaluable and his contribution will not be forgotten.

We also acknowledge the passing of Peter Muller. Peter was PSS’s Public Relations Officer from 1990-1995 and wrote the book celebrating PSS’s 75th anniversary – For Young and Old: The story of the first 75 years of Presbyterian Support Services Southland 1919-1994.

Our thoughts are with both families.

Volunteers Commended

Family Works Volunteers, including Big Buddies and Foster Parents, have been acknowledged for their tremendous input to children and young people in the community. They were recognised with a Commendation in the Education and Child/Youth Development category of the Trustpower Invercargill/Southland Community Awards.

Wakatipu Buddy Programme volunteers also received a Commendation in the same category, as part of the Queenstown Lakes District Awards.
