Role with PSS: Family Works Team Leader

Started in:

March 2011. I started as a Social Worker with roles in general casework and the intake service. Over time I also became involved with the Cool Families Programme and Family Disputes Resolution (FDR) Service. In June 2016 I changed roles to be Team Leader for the Family Start programme and from 1 July this year my responsibility has shifted to cover the various other programmes offered by Family Works – Buddy Programme, Parenting, Incredible Years and Strengthening Families.

Give us a quick overview of your role:

I provide support and supervision to the Programme Co-ordinators. This includes work for volunteer recruitment and training, programme development and management of resources. I am also a mediator for FDR which helps separated parents/caregivers have a facilitated conversation regarding the needs and best interests of their children.

What’s the number one thing you love most about your job?

Times of positive progress. When you work through an issue and get to an “Ahh haa” moment where people have a plan and the confidence to do the next thing knowing it’s a good choice.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

Enjoy time with family, hiking in our beautiful country, cooking, baking and the fun bits of gardening.

What's the one thing, you can't live without?

Oxygen...love…and good coffee is great!

What’s your favourite quote or saying?

My Grandmother often said that “If a thing’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well” and this has stuck with me. Gran was an amazing lady who did a lot of normal everyday stuff ‘well’ and it really blessed her family.
