Generous Christmas Support “Humbling”

Christmas was made a little easier for at least 50 Southland families in 2016, thanks to the support of a very generous community.

Community support and generosity enabled Family Works to put together quality food parcels and gifts for Southland families in need over Christmas.

A number of businesses and individuals contributed to the parcels and donated gifts for children and young people. Programme Support Administrator for Family Works Carol Brown, who coordinates the parcels annually, said it was humbling to see the support.

“It just makes you think wow, what a wonderful community,” Carol said.
“There’s a real need out there, and if by providing a food parcel it means families can give their children a better Christmas, that’s what it’s about.”

PSS would like to thank everyone who contributed to the food parcels and gifts including: Craig’s Poultry, EBOS, Aselo, Tork, Goodman Fielder, Otago Purchasing, Richmond Grove Church, St Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian First Church, Invercargill South Rotary, Invercargill North Rotary, Plaza Supervalue, Focus Technology, Sanitarium, Fonterra, H&J Smith Christmas Tree Appeal, Salvation Army’s Adopt a Family for Christmas project and all of the generous individuals who made a contribution.

Several Family Works clients also attended the Mayoral Christmas Lunch.

Thank you to the organisations and individuals that made these initiatives possible.

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for gifting us a Christmas hamper. No words can express how generous this was and how grateful we are, money is always tight and receiving this hamper just freed up the stress for us to enjoy our family and friends.”
