North Porirua Kāhui Ako Update
On Wednesday evening the BOT was invited to hear about the happenings of our Kāhui Ako and make connections with other parent board representatives within our Kāhui Ako, which consists of ten other Schools. Here is a rundown of the initiatives in the Kahui Ako.
Strategic Goals Initiatives
WELL-BEING | HAUORA
Our learners and teachers enjoy positive relationships, resilience, self-optimism, and a high level of satisfaction with learning experiences.
● Our Kāhui Rangatahi Kura continues to meet. This provides student leadership opportunities for our primary students and connections for our secondary students. The AST leader facilitates a network to empower teachers to lead cultural connections, powhiri, kapa haka, and Te Reo.
● Although the Polyfest had to be cancelled due to Covid-19, Aotea College is working with teachers to strengthen Pasifika languages, identity, and culture.
● Teachers from ECE (Early Childhood Education) and schools are sharing practices across the Kāhui Ako that promote successful transitioning from ECE to primary school and to secondary school.
● Schools are administering the Well-being at School survey and will analyse results for all students in September.
● There will be an opportunity for Kiva and PB4L schools to meet later in Term 3 if that is a need.
PATHWAYS | ARATIKA
Our learners experience continuity of learning as they move from early childhood through to the end of their secondary schooling.
● Support is being given to successful transition interviews and meetings for and with Aotea College for 2021, including transition videos that teachers are making with senior Aotea College students.
● A number of across school sports initiatives are being planned for later in the year.
● There has been significant work on information sharing protocols for schools and ECE.
● At the start of the year teachers had access to forums to support Learning Through Play pedagogies.
● A network for SENCOs has been re-established, with plans for a shared register by the end of 2020.
● Several schools in our Kāhui Ako are working with Denise Hitchcock on writing pedagogy and connections with the Learning Progressions Framework. This PLD is centrally funded.
INNOVATION | AUAHA
Our learners achieve success in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) in integrated ways based on authentic contexts and with an emphasis on innovation and design.
● The lead teacher is ready to work with schools, particularly at the Year 7 -8 level on rich science tasks. They have made many positive connections with partners in our community to support science learning.
● Our digital fluency and effective learning with digital technologies workshop, facilitated by CORE education, were cut short in Term 1 but we have had over 130 teachers participating in workshops in Term 3.
● Over half of the schools in our Kāhui Ako are working with a facilitator from NZCER on rich mathematical tasks and connections with the Learning Progressions Framework.
