EOTC Activities

Education outside the classroom (EOTC) is the name given to all events and activities that occur outside the classroom, both on the school grounds and off-site.

EOTC and our Local Curriculum

Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) is a valued part of Pukerua Bay's local curriculum. The ability to spend time outdoors, allowing students to discover and learn through their own experiences, is a fundamental part of our school's localised curriculum.

As part of our local curriculum INFINITE journey, we enrich students' learning by widening learning outside of the classroom. Our students participate in a wide range of learning opportunities which sometimes require travel within and outside the school grounds. Class teachers aim to provide extension and enrichment opportunities for their students which take place outside of the classroom.

EOTC Sporting Events

Students (especially senior students) may participate in a wide range of sporting events outside the school throughout the year.

Safety and Blanket Permission Note

Our school uses a process, which is monitored by the principal and board of trustees, to identify and manage risk for all activity types. The Ministry of Education EOTC Guidelines identify four activity types, each with recommended parent/caregiver consent (as outlined below).

The Ministry of Education EOTC Guidelines.

Staff and our Board of Trustees analyse the risk associated with all EOTC activities, and identify strategies eliminate, isolate, and/or minimise the risks.

Information will be sent home about these opportunities but permission will not be needed if you have already signed the blanket consent form. The school will therefore assume your child has permission, as per the blanket consent form.

Parent Consent for EOTC: Blanket Permission Form

Swimming

Swimming consent for lessons do not form part of this 'Blanket Consent' and permission notes for this will be sent separately.

EOTC Week

Every year, Pukerua Bay School have an EOTC week towards the end of the year. Our whole school participate in Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) week.

The goal of this week is to provide students with the opportunity to discover and learn through time outdoors, while also building connections with their peers and teachers.

Camp

Biannually, our Year 7/8 students experience overnight and week-long camps in the different natural environments that we are fortunate to have here in Aotearoa/New Zealand. We offer ākonga a taste of, and hopefully a love for, the great outdoors, along with the confidence and skills necessary to tackle new situations and challenges.
