Bush School

Pukerua Bay School —

'Fun is just another word for learning'.

Bush School offers real-life experiences where children explore and play in nature, placing them at the heart of the environment.

At Pukerua Bay School, our junior classes attend Bush School regularly, while some of our senior classes may visit two to three times a term as part of their development. It is a space where tamariki build resilience, develop social and motor skills, foster independence, and strengthen their connection to te taiao.

Regular contact with nature has proven to have positive impacts, and our tamariki benefit from the opportunity to engage with the natural world in our Bush School setting.

Bush School also supports and enhances our local curriculum, with activities like hut building, creating medicine for George's Marvellous Medicine, testing stream water for science, and shared reading sessions.

What they need?

Your child's class teacher will inform you when they will attend Bush School. Gumboots are essential for playing in the stream and keeping shoes dry and clean. A change of clothes is also highly recommended, as tamariki often get messy.
