Principals message
“Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.”
Kia ora Whānau
I hope you have all managed to batten down the hatches and stay warm over the last few days. The weather conditions we have been experiencing have been horrendous, and our tamariki have not been able to get outdoors as much as they would like.
Kahui ako Teacher only day.
On the 3rd of June, we had a teacher-only day, this involved all 11 schools that are part of the North Porirua Kahui Ako participating in a variety of workshops.
The morning started with a powhiri. We also had two keynote speakers; Jase Te Patu - M3 Mindfulness and Maria Uluilelata - Pacific cultural knowledge. Both speakers were engaging, making us think as practitioners about understanding and meeting the needs of our tamariki.
The rest of the day was spent with teachers choosing three further workshops that were of interest to them. There were a variety of workshops on offer, catering for a large number of learning areas. This was a great day for all teachers from the Northern Porirua area, learning together.
Three-way conferences
I want to thank you all for attending your child’s learning conference and celebrating their learning journey. It’s very important for your child to see that you value their learning and that you are interested in what they do in the class.
I do hope that you feel this process is valuable and that you know where your child is at with their learning. More importantly, I want your child to know where they are at with their learning, and what their next steps are in order for them to be successful.
Matariki
It has been great to see our tamariki learning more about Matariki, and we look forward to the Matariki celebrations on July 2nd. The choir has chosen their songs and is practising, we also have a number of students from yr 5-8 learning a contemporary dance that they will perform. Our whanau group will be doing a Hangi, please keep a lookout for more information around this in the coming weeks.
Board Elections
Please see the notice from our BOT inviting anybody that is interested in wanting to be on the Board to an information evening. We will be talking more about what the governance of a school looks like.
Cross country
We had our Juniors run the school cross country on Wednesday afternoon and it was so good to see our junior students participate with such enthusiasm and excitement. They all did extremely well and they can be proud of their efforts.

Parumoana Cross Country
This took place yesterday at Queen Elizabeth Park in reasonably good weather conditions. The students of Pukerua Bay were outstanding both on and off the track. I can't tell you how proud I was of our students, with their positivity and the support they demonstrated. Even when they had a fall, they picked themselves up and carried on performing extremely well.
We have six students from Pukerua Bay School representing our area at Regionals later in the term.
Gretal Eagar - 2nd Year 4
Josh Pearce - 9th Year 5
Walter Christie - 7th Year 6
Abbey Joostens - 6th Year 6
Alex Wiles - 5th Year 7
Lilah Eagar - 4th Year 7
We wish all our athletes the very best when they compete at Regionals later in the term.
