Swannanoa Preschool
Nau mai, Haere Mai, welcome to Swannanoa Preschool
We are very proud of our beautiful spacious preschool.
Our staff and environments are second to none and we are a Green Gold Enviroschool!
We are located on the Swannanoa School grounds and offer high quality education in a safe, caring country environment.
We want your child's first steps into the learning world to be fun, imaginative and educational.
Our Preschool is organised into four areas;
Whakanui 'to treat with respect' Birth - confident walkers
Puawai 'to blossom & grow': Confident walkers - 2 year olds
Atawhai ‘to show kindness' Over 2 year olds
Manaaki ‘to take care of' Over 2 year olds
We have amazing kaiako (teacher) to child ratios and all of our permanent kaiako are qualified and registered or undergoing registration.
Our philosophy is based around relationships, respect, well being and belonging.
Our desired outcomes for children are:
- social and communication skills
- language acquisition, literacy and numeracy skills
- curiosity and creativity
- resilience, self-regulation, confidence, awareness of their own identity, culture and language
- respect and care for the environment.
We have a very well thought out transition to school programme and work closely with the schools our tamariki will be attending.
Not for Profit, Community Based
As we are a Not for Profit, Community Based Preschool it is really important that our families get involved.
Parents and Whānau have an important role to play and have much to contribute. We love having parents/grandparents, whānau spend time at the centre. We have had parents
share languages with us, many have come in to bake with our tamariki, make preserves and soups. Mums have helped our tamariki make Christmas decorations, bath babies. Dads too, one of our Police Dads has brought in his police dogs and car (the siren was a hit!), another Dad brought in his dogs and gave us an amazing dog agility display.
Don’t forget the Grandparents, Grandma – clay modelling, Granddad – science experiments, we had Dutch Grandparents visit us during International week.
We have been visited by many kittens, puppies, ducklings, and mice...ponies even! The tamariki loved the pony rides!!
We hold regular coffee mornings; this is a great way to get to know some local parents/whānau.
