Fernside School -Production to end a busy Term.
Term 3 ended with song, dance and just a little bit of drama. Yes the school production was centre stage.
Our school production occurs every second year and it is the highlight of our arts and drama programmes. Teachers have the challenge of creating a 5-7 min item that allows students to be participants in a stage show. It will come as no surprise to anyone who has performed on stage how much work is involved.
This year the show was built around "Great musicals from the past." If you can imagine the following shows put into a highlights package then you can almost imagine our show...
Grease, Sound of Music, Bugsy Malone, Phantom of the Opera, The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Hairspray, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, The Greatest Showman and Matilda.
The show was linked together with some interesting interplay. We had a panel of judges evaluating the acts (Think "Britains Got Talent"), and we had two old men on the balcony offering thought and opinions. (Think the muppets.)
My congratulations to the teachers for their creativity, enthusiasm, planning, humour, optimism and energy. A special thank you to Jane Leopold our arts and music leader. The only person just crazy enough to try and pull the whole thing off.
A big thank you to all the parents who have helped with props, costumes and classroom support. It has been a team effort.
Finally a thank you to Ohoka School for the use of their school hall. It worked a treat.
