Broomfield School at the Height of Winter!
As winter fast approaches, Broomfield School has been enjoying the warm winter days at school and out an about in our wider community!
Term two has seen our children strengthen their community bonds of relationships, perseverance, grit and determination, celebrations of learning and diversity. This has occurred through our sporting fixtures, Science focus for the term, class trips and our senior children’s leadership opportunities.
Our Junior classes have been learning about Flight. They took a trip to the Air Force Museum in Christchurch and have had guest scientists in, participating in science experiments to do with Flight.
Our Senior classes have been learning about Weather and Changes. Children eagerly shared how to make clouds and rain in assembly through sharing their science experiments with us. I am always very humbled by our children at Broomfield and their dedication to their fitness, well-being, participation, encouragement and competitiveness. Our Cross Country this year shifted to Glenmark Farms, with all children from Year 0 to 8 competing. This great family event was also supported by our wider community with lots of spectators turning up.
This term we also got to the back of our Sport Shed and dusted off the cobwebs exposing some old sports equipment that was packed away. We found the tennis automatic ball firer! The children have spent many weeks now with the tennis nets, rackets and firer, out having heaps of fun, with lots of laughs and smiles.
Our Senior children have been out and about in our community, with CrossFit, speech competitions, writing competitions, fundraising and the National Young Leaders Day. A group of children have been visiting our local rest home residents. They have learnt important skills in communicating and building relationships. The boys especially have loved playing cards with the residents. They have learnt to be patient and accepting of cards going missing and rules changing at the last minute!
Congratulations to Kara Cairns, our Year 8 student who represented the school at the Rangiora Rotary Speech Competition.
Lastly a huge shout out of thanks goes to our community and PTA – The BEES, who supported the ‘Heights of Winter’ NZ Rogaining Event. This fundraiser was extremely successful.
In the final week of this term we look forward to celebrating student learning through our Student Led Learning Conferences.
Have a safe and happy holiday everyone!
