Southbrook Learning Walks
Student Work Management Tool
Students self-manage and complete learning activities, letting teachers know they are ready to be checked off by colouring in the correct square. Teachers then sign off on work, so students are given feedback.
Why: Increased student agency and self-management, reduced teacher workload and better communication between teachers through tracking of students. Increase in assessment for learning as students may be able to evidence-gather and co-construct learning activities. Better teacher-student communication and learning conversations happen with the student rather than without them.
What: A tool to enable teachers and students to track student progress. Students self-manage and complete learning activities, letting teachers know they are ready to be checked off by colouring in the correct square. Teachers then sign off on work, so students are given feedforward at that time.
How: This could be adapted to work well using self assessment and collectively understood rubrics at HS level, in combination with an ePortfolio or other place for students to park all of their course work. Students could have a term/semester/fortnight sheet that is collectively understood, and teachers check them off as students are ready to be assessed.
