Belfast School is an accredited SunSmart School
SunSmart Schools are accredited by the Cancer Society of New Zealand.
Accreditation is given to schools that have developed and implemented a sun protection policy for Terms 1 and 4, This ensures students and teachers are in a sunsafe environment.
At Belfast School sunhats are a compulsory part of our uniform in Terms 1 and 4. There are two styles of hat to suit different children's needs. Teachers wear hats when on duty and outside with their classes.
There are sails located in different parts of the school to provide shade for students working or playing outside. We have a wonderful range of large trees that provide natural shade providing great places for children to gather to eat lunch.
For all outdoor education trips during the spring and summer months, children are encouraged to wear sunblock. Sunblock is on hand for all outdoor events and trips to ensure children have appropriate sun protection.
Our curriculum includes teaching children about sun-safe practices and the health risks of UV exposure.
