Professor Stephen Ashworth teaching us about 'Kitchen Science'

Amber Wing —

Yesterday the Year 5-8 students were treated to a very informative and engaging science session.

Professor Stephen Ashworth is here in NZ, from the UK. He is working alongside the University of Canterbury and travelling around teaching school students and Graduate students about Chemistry.

We learnt about how all things, including ourselves are made up of molecules. We also learnt about acids and alkaline and that carbon dioxide is denser than air. We learnt all this through some amazing experiments and the children were fizzing after their session with the Professor.

It was a fantastic way to ignite some real passion in the students and for them to want to learn more. Some students even returned back to class and focused on creating their DLO's (Digital Learning Objects) for their blogs. Keen to share their learning and their experience!
