Dream Jars Inspired Writing in Room 10

Mark Lorenzen —

This week the Year 3/4 students in Room 10 have been continuing their shared Chapter Chat novel study of The B.F.G by Roald Dahl.

For those familiar with this story, the B.F.G or Big Friendly Giant collects dreams and stores these in his spacious cave located deep in Giant Country. One of the tasks provided by Chapter Chat this week was to decorate or create your own Dream Jar and write your favourite dreams to place inside the jar.

First as a class we discussed and compiled a list of the best dreams that we would dearly love to have. Then the students got to work drafting and publishing the dreams that they wanted for their jar.

Lastly the students used cover seal, wrapping paper and coloured paper to decorate their dream jars.

The students love their newly decorated Dream Jars!

Each student now has their dream jar at home. The whole idea is to pull out a dream just prior to bedtime, read it out loud or silently then pop the dream back into the jar. The students may even dream about that dream! Mr L has encouraged his students to add to their dream jar any more dreams or special memories they may have between now and....whenever....dream the impossible...dream big students!
