Bring your own Chromebook

Kia ora e te whānau/parents/caregivers

We are one of approximately 100 schools involved in the Manaiakalani Programme throughout New Zealand and as part of that we run a Yr 4-8 (optional for Year 3) Bring Your Own Chromebook (BYOC) program. It is highly recommended that all students moving into our Year 4-8 BYOC programme purchase their own chromebook. While this is not mandatory it is highly recommended as your child will be using their device daily to support their learning. If you choose to not buy a device there will be a small number of devices available for students to borrow, however these will be allocated from Year 8 down and we may not have enough for

every child. If your child does not have access to a device they still have the option to use pen and paper.

A reminder that devices which are not Chromebooks will not be allowed to be used by any students involved with our BYOC programme.

The chromebook has been carefully selected by Manaiakalani as being most able to support learning in our schools. It is uniquely configured for student classes and each school’s google domain, and is optimized for use with Google's Apps for Education software solutions. The device is able to be supported by teachers and by the school’s IT support services. We are

unable to add any other type of device to our school system. This means NO iPads, iPods, tablets, Other Apple devices, Notebooks, Windows devices. Or any device that runs Windows operating system.

Please read the information below regarding Chromebook device purchases for 2025 as part of our Yr 4-8 Bring Your Own Chromebook (BYOC) programme. Any order placed by Wednesday 20th November will be delivered before the end of the school year. Orders after this date will be

held until school opens in 2025.

Manaiakalani has tested a range of Chromebooks and come up with what they believe is the most robust and reliable device for students to use on a daily basis.

*The 2025 bundle price is $520 incl GST

● Acer C734 Chromebook

● 3-year manufacturer's warranty *

● Bag - Targus Education Work-in Clamshell with 3-year manufacturer's warranty.

● Cover - comes with cover for the costs of up to 3 repairs and/or 1 replacement of

devices, accidentally lost or damaged.

PLEASE NOTE - There is a new system for repairs and warranties. Please click to see the new Acer Device Care Programme. This is not an insurance product, it is an incident repair service offered with Acer Chromebooks devices for the Manaiakalani Education Trust.

If you choose to take up this offer it will only be available through the school. Please go to this online portal to complete your order.

If you choose to purchase elsewhere please shop around, do your homework and ensure your device meets our minimum requirements.

Minimum requirements for a device:

● Wireless internet capability

● Headphone Jack

● 4gb of RAM (minimum for Chromebook)

● Screen size. No less than 11.6′′ screen

● A suitable carry case or cover (recommended)

● USB Port

● A Keyboard (this can not be a touchscreen keyboard)

● Must be able to run the Chrome browser

Your chromebook must have 4gb of RAM as the 2gb cheaper version is too slow and won’t do the job for the 3-4 years you are expecting to have it.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or queries.
